About Department of Ayurveda and Alternative (DOAA)
The Department of Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine (DoAA), one of the three departments under the Ministry of Health & Population (MoHP) in Nepal, plays a crucial role in managing and promoting Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine Services across the country.
DOAA was established in 2010 being merged with the Department of Health Services. On June 31, 2038 it was established as Department of Ayurveda . At present, it is at Teku under the Ministry of Health and Population.
Functions, Duties and Powers of the Department:
A. To formulate and coordinate the programs of the Department that is runned under it.
B. To coordinate Ayurveda and Homeopathy, Unani, Natural Medicine, Amchi and other alternative medicine policies and quality
C. To perform necessary actions related to standards.
To coordinate with the agency of the Stakeholders for herbal conservation, promotion, promotion and quality Ayurveda medicine production, research and regulation.
D. To Monitoring, inspection, approval and giving necessary guidance for the effectiveness of services provided by Ayurveda and alternative sustainable institutions operated by government and private institutions.
E. To carry out activities related to Ayurveda health service management and promotion.
F. Carrying out other daily administrative tasks.
Constitutional Mandate:
- The Constitution of Nepal emphasizes the protection and promotion of traditional Ayurveda medicines, along with naturopathy and homeopathy.
- The **National Health Policy (2014)** advocates for expanding Ayurvedic services in alignment with the **National Ayurveda Health Policy (1995)
